Character: Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik
Canon: Sonic the Hedgehog IDW - post-Surge and Kit attack on one of his bases. Issue #56
Of note about this canon source is that IDW treats all of the games as official canon as well while not expressly referencing them the way the Archie series did.
Age: He has no canon age but considering Gerald Robotnik and Shadow’s timeline, mid 40s seems like a safe bet.

Personality: Dr. Eggman, being the primary antagonist of the Sonic canon, is outwardly evil, spiteful, manipulative, scheming, and conniving. Possessed of a genius-level intellect, he takes it upon himself to reshape the world as he sees fit. To take the world as it is and mold and transform it into his personal vision. His goal is to further his Eggman Empire with machines, weapons, and robots all devised by his own hands. Eggman vastly prefers robots to people because they can be controlled. There’s less margin for error. Much like robotics in general, commanding a fleet of automatons requires precision and, most importantly: vision. A first impression of the man would likely be that he’s off his rocker. He’s eccentric and theatrical and speaks with conviction. Honestly, if it weren’t for his penchant to scheme outwardly, he has all the same charisma as a leader and is not afraid to take people under his wing, provided they were useful.

Eggman sees himself as a visionary who has been blessed with intellect far above his peers. This intellect and self-assured nature leads to him being particularly reckless and, at times, he has the penchant for theatrics. Eggman is the master of his world and destiny, or at least he sees himself as such. Everything must be in his control and that includes the lives and fates of others. As a man who likes theme parks, his desire to shape and control everything around him can be summed up by this quote:

“I don't settle for the world as it is, doctor. I make it what I want it to be. If I want my enemies' last moments to be carousel music and the smell of petroleum-based cotton candy, that's what I'll make happen. “

Eggman also rarely thinks of the consequences to his actions, merely choosing to focus on the end result and course correcting as necessary. He released the metal virus, a biological agent that converted living organisms into mindless ‘zombots’ without first creating a cure. When the spread of the virus had resulted in a global, uncontrollable pandemic, he admitted that he would abandon the planet and find another. More often than not, it’s his lack of caution that leads to world-spanning problems. Problems that he is forced to partner up with his rival Sonic to correct and solve.

Even with his ego, Eggman does deem fit to acknowledge those he respects. Sonic himself is someone he acknowledges in private as a worthy rival. One whose speed and tenacity sufficiently measure up to and equal his own wit and cunning. It is this rivalry that feeds his ego as he demands to be the one who finishes Sonic off as a point of pride. It is this very ego that keeps him on his path of tyranny and destruction despite the few instances we have seen where he can be more human. Due to memory loss, a ‘good’ version of Eggman, dubbed “Mr. Tinker” was born. During this time, he built toys and amusement park rides and it is this persona that leads Sonic to believe there’s some decency in the Doctor somewhere inside of him. Even Eggman himself seems to have moments of doubt; he hesitates when confronted with the idea of building things people could actually use and enjoy rather than constructing tools of war and subjugation. He’s not above doing the right thing, but it must be framed in his self-interest before it’s considered.

Preferably, I would love for Eggman to be a corsair as he would only ever take orders from himself. However, an argument could be made for him to be slotted into the Paladins where he could attempt to disrupt and potentially even usurp control. Regardless, Eggman thinks big and there’s nothing much bigger in the game than the Leviathans. Specifically, he would either look to take control of one or attempt to bend one to his will as the base for his new Empire and armada. Should a Chaos Emerald or seven appear from the rifts there would be plenty he could use their energies for. Either way, his first step would be to seize an island for his base while heavily studying the magitech available to him. My ultimate goal is for him to become a problem and maybe explore some of his humanity through CR.
